Paul Haefcke has over 40 years of experience as a CEO, senior operating manager and business owner in the building products distribution industry.
Mr. Haefcke is currently the Chief Executive Officer of American Builders Supply, the largest independent supplier of doors, windows and trusses to homebuilders in Florida. Mr. Haefcke co-invested with Carbide Partners to acquire the assets of the company in partnership with a private equity fund and management in 2011.
From 2003 to 2007, Mr. Haefcke was the Chief Executive Officer of Hammerhead Distribution, a holding company backed by private equity sponsor Red Diamond Capital. Hammerhead was created to acquire and consolidate North American distributors of roofing, siding, windows, doors and other building materials for residential and commercial construction. Hammerhead’s initial acquisition was the purchase of Morris Ginsberg & Son, Inc., a Baltimore, Maryland-based distributor of roofing supplies and related building materials. After experiencing significant growth, including the opening of several greenfield distribution centers in new territories, Hammerhead was sold to a strategic acquiror at a gain for the company’s private equity sponsor.
From 1996 to 2003, Mr. Haefcke was the founder and CEO of Shelter Distribution, a consolidator of building material distributors backed by financial sponsors Weiss, Peck & Greer and Ridge Capital. In a period of six years, Mr. Haefcke built Shelter through acquisitions and organic growth from a single distribution operation into a highly profitable, $180 million Midwest regional distributor with multiple locations. Shelter was sold to a financial buyer at a price that resulting in a 5.5 times return of invested capital for Weiss, Peck & Greer.
Previously, Mr. Haefcke was Executive Vice President and head of purchasing for ABC Supply Co., the country’s largest distributor of roofing supplies, from 1991 to 1996. From 1972 to 1989, Mr. Haefcke was an operating executive at Allied Building Products, the second largest distributor of roofing products in the country. At Allied, Mr. Haefcke started as a truck driver and was successively promoted into positions of increasing responsibility in sales, branch management and regional management.
